About Rod
Rod Jackson was born and raised in Barrie. For the last four generations, Rod’s family has been calling Barrie home. Rod and his wife, Joanne, have two children, Abbey (9) and Will (7). As working professionals and parents, the Jacksons understand what it’s like to balance work, family and public service.
Rod completed his undergraduate studies in Political Science and Communications at York University followed by Graduate studies in Dispute Resolution. Following his studies, he pursued a career in human resources and labour management as a professional mediator. Rod then completed his Human Resources Management Diploma from Georgian College.
Rod took an overseas assignment in Japan in Human Resources for three years returning to his hometown of Barrie to live and work. He acquired a position at Queen’s Park as the local MPP’s Legislative Assistant. Rod entered the private sector again as the Director of Human Resources for Moore Packaging for five years before starting his own successful business “Redline Strategies” in 2004. He provides human resources services to businesses as diverse as small local employers and major corporations such as Quebecor and Bombardier aerospace.
After serving on several boards and service groups, Rod decided to enter a life of service and was elected to Barrie City Council in 2006 to work for the people of Barrie and Ward 3.
As a Councillor, Rod authored and championed the Safe Parks Strategy which has evolved into a community safety program; ensured the passing of the Little Lake Master Plan; and contributed to the physician recruitment task forcesecuring the largest funding ever for doctor recruitment to Barrie. Rod has also been instrumental in lobbying other levels of government for tens of millions of dollars in critically needed infrastructure funding and fighting to keep Central Collegiate open.
This year, Rod was elected to represent the needs of Barrie as MPP for the riding. He has proven to be a respected outspoken advocate for responsible public spending and investment. He has put his money where his mouth is and has consistently voted to lower taxes and had the lowest expenses of any Councillor during his term. He plans to make Barrie as safe and prosperous as possible to ensure a future for our children, a booming business community and a secure, affordable place for our seniors to retire.
Rod is always available to speak with residents and encourages all his neighbours to contact him with any questions or concerns.
